  3. Capstan:

  4. Brake and Clutch:

    • The brake allows the operator to control the descent of the anchor, therefore ensuring it doesn’t free-fall too quickly. The clutch can disengage the gypsy from the motor, allowing for manual operation if necessary.

    • Windlasses are operated via controls that typically include buttons or foot switches for raising and lowering the anchor.

  6. Chain Locker:

    • The chain or rode is stored in the chain locker. when the anchor is raised, the windlass automatically feeds the chain or rope into the locker.
